Lost? Let me see a map! (Please, don't tell me turn left, then right, then left…etc verbally. I will never get there!) Want to know if a word is spelled correctly? Let me write it out first and see if it "looks right." When someone asks me, "What does…(and starts listing a bunch of letters) mean?" My answer is almost always, "let me see it."
With spatial learning being my preference, it is no wonder that my passions and hobbies include the written word, illustrating, photography, etc.
I find myself looking for images or shapes within objects. I like to look at clouds to see if I can find an object they may resemble. I have knotty pine walls and ceiling in which I sometimes look at the knots to try to find faces or extraordinary shapes.
Often, when I am illustrating, I will start with basic shapes, mainly because I am not very good with straight lines. But… it also helps me to see how things fit together better.
After I made the first sketch on the left, I knew something was wrong, but couldn't put my finger on it. So, I left it for a little while and came back to it. When I came back, I realized there were a few things wrong. They just didn't "look right." Can you tell all the changes I made during the development of one of my newest characters? By the way, meet Bo the Crow!
