Hello everyone. Today, I thought I would provide a poster on dividing algebraic exponents. It is difficult enough to divide regular/numerical exponents. It can be extra difficult to divide algebraic exponents, because the values are unknown. So, I created a poster that depicts dividing algebraic exponents and how to solve the division problems. I hope this makes it a little easier for you. When I solve difficult math problems or learn new skills, I try to depict the problem. That makes it easier for me to solve the problem. Depicting the problem is an effective problem solving strategy in math and in many other subject areas. Hello everyone. Today, I am introducing a new blog to DUO Education. It is called, "I Wonder… ." I hope you enjoy it. It is a place to get questions asked and answered. It is meant to encourage more wondering, seeking, questioning, and learning in the world. I hope you enjoy it. Hello everyone. I am going to take you on a walk down memory lane. I will give you links to some of my favorite blogposts. I hope you enjoy them. I look forward to hearing whether they are some of yours as well.

During my time away, I have been learning new things. Some of you know that I am a life-long learner and enjoy learning. I have been teaching myself about handcrafting necklaces, creating online newsletters, blogging, marketing, drawing, and all sorts of things. I have recently started a new business and a new website for it. If you would like, you can visit it at www.DUOInspirations.com. Yes, there is that DUO again. I try (with varying degrees of success) to lead my life by following the Golden Rule. So… I decided to name my business with a reminder of the Golden Rule. Just as I hope to live my life by the Golden Rule, I hope to run my business by the Golden Rule. My focus words for this year are "inspiration" and "determination." I would love to hear what your focus words are for the year. Please comment below. Also… new things are coming. I would like to have you explore DUO Education and tell me what you find valuable and what you don't. What are you looking for in an educational site? You are a valued follower/reader and I would love to be the resource for which you are looking. Tell me how I can better serve you. I would love to hear your comments below. Thank you. Hello everyone. I have questions for all you parents, educators, learners, daycare providers, homeschoolers, librarians, and children's authors (including MG and YA authors) out there. What sort of educational materials do you think will be helpful? Would you use educational materials that go with specific books? Would you use an activity book that was created with your needs in mind? Would you prefer a service like this based on a piece by piece basis or based on a membership? I want to help you! I want to make things better for you! I want to provide a quality and individualized educational service! Please, contact me or comment below. Thank you! What is Online Tutoring, Who Can it Help, How Can You Use it, and Why Choose DUO Education?9/24/2014 Hello everyone. I often promote my online tutoring page. Yet, it has occurred to me that some of you may not know much about online tutoring. I know that there wasn't such a thing when I was going through school. Online tutoring or distance learning is becoming more and more prevalent. People are finding that learning from the comfort of their own home at a time that works for them is much easier than going to a school, library, or tutoring center to learn. It cuts down the need to get childcare or to use the car and waste gas unnecessarily. There are quite a few online learning establishments. If you want to learn online, there are a variety of places to check out. Some of them are big, established places with many tutors. Why consider DUO Education instead of those places? Most of the bigger places give tutors a percentage of the tutoring fee. So, in order to make the program worth it to both the company and the tutors, the fee has to be more expensive. I am a one woman show. I only have to make it worth it for myself. So, my prices are apt to be less expensive. How does online tutoring actually work? What is involved? For me, it would be a case by case basis. It depends on what is needed and what technology the learner may have to use. It could be any where from emailing or chatting back and forth to Skyping or using Google Hangouts to have more of a face to face feel. There is technology where a learner and tutor can share use of an online white board or chalkboard, so that you can work on problems together. Sometimes tutoring involves gathering resources and learning activities for learners to practice in between sessions. With DUO Education, it may also creating custom activities individualized for optimum results for each learner. That leads me to my next point to consider, while considering online tutoring… or any tutoring for that matter. What is the educational philosophy of the tutor? Does he or she have a variety of strategies in teaching? Is he or she willing to cater to your learning style and abilities? Is the tutor encouraging and understanding? There is another plus to online tutoring. It is safe. You or your child is not side by side of someone you don't know. Yes, there is a "side by side" feel on the computer. But…there isn't any rubbing shoulders in a home, center, library, or school. What are some ways you can use DUO Education's online tutoring? *Your child is struggling for understanding and the grades you want in specific academic skills *Your child has difficulty being motivated to WANT to learn *Your child has special needs and falls behind with what he or she receives during the school day *Your child sometimes has homework questions and you have a difficult time getting answers for him or her and you would like to sign up for a "homework help program" *Your child has difficulty with study skills in general and staying organized with school work *Your child enjoys writing and you want to help him or her hone the skill to the point where he or she can some day get a book published I know what you are wondering. You are wondering with all this mention of children, if I only work with children. No, I work with people of all ages. I am happy to work with people of all ages and abilities. If there is a specific subject or skill that you are wanting to learn, please let me know. We can talk about it. If I can't help, I will try to point you in a direction that will be helpful. Are you ready to check out DUO Education's Online Tutoring Services? Do you know anyone who may benefit from online tutoring services? You can check out the services here. And, if you have any questions or are ready to start your online tutoring journey, please feel free to contact me. It is free to contact me. It is free to discuss your needs. Try it, today! Hello everyone. You may have noticed that I haven't been doing the other blogs on the site. I am trying new things to try to get quality work out to you in the most effective way possible. So, please bear with me while this transformation takes place. I may be a bit short on the blog posts. Although, when it is all said and done, I hope it will be worth it for all of us. Thank you!
Hello everyone. I am not excited about the way education is moving today. It seems to be less of an experience about learning and more of a system for power. They say, "Knowledge is power." However, is that really how we want to look at it? Do we really want to be power hungry, focusing on power and not what knowledge really gives us? I can hear the wheels turning in your minds now. But… knowledge provides power. You have the power to do more things, have more options, and know more about the world around you. It gives you the power to make a difference. Yet, I ask you to consider a couple of other words instead of power. I think freedom and responsibility are better words. Knowledge is freedom. It gives you the freedom to do more things, have more options, and know more about the world around you. Knowledge also gives you the freedom and responsibility to make a difference. You can have all of these things without the need, desire, or talk of power. I guess that is the difference I am trying to make. I offer and promote education as: the act of learning, the awe of learning, the seeking of knowledge, the building of self-confidence and self-esteem, the building blocks to being resourceful and thinking for oneself. Learning is to be fun, useful, and rewarding for each person as individuals. If you have the same sort of ideals and would like to see more if it, share my posts. Help build a community of educators and learners who want to make a difference and who want to see the world of education take a different path than the current one. I hope to see more people offering and promoting the same services and attitudes. And, if you do not want to offer educational services, I hope that you will promote mine. Share it! Get people talking about it. Open a conversation. Education and the attitude surrounding it are important ideas and concepts that should not be taken lightly. Hello everyone. With the beginning of school, I thought it would be good to include a sample of a homework log in today's blog. This is just one sample. Yet, it gets students to think, not just about the assignment itself, but also about the preparation and follow through of the assignment. Students decide the priority level of the assignment, whether or not they have all the materials needed, if they understand the assignment, and when it is finished. Help your child to be organized and thoughtful about his or her homework. Homework logs can help your student be more efficient and more confident. Feel free to click on the image and download the sample homework log. If you would like a customized homework log, feel free to contact me for details. |
