Welcome to 2015: New Things are Coming and How can I Better Serve You

1/7/2015

Hello everyone!  I hope you have all had very blessed holidays and happy new year's celebrations.  I have been away for a while.  But… I am back now.  I am going to be experimenting with my posts and formats some to try to make it as good and effective as I can.  I hope you will bear with me.
During my time away, I have been learning new things.  Some of you know that I am a life-long learner and enjoy learning.  I have been teaching myself about handcrafting necklaces, creating online newsletters, blogging, marketing, drawing, and all sorts of things.
I have recently started a new business and a new website for it.  If you would like, you can visit it at www.DUOInspirations.com.
Yes, there is that DUO again.  I try (with varying degrees of success) to lead my life by following the Golden Rule.  So… I decided to name my business with a reminder of the Golden Rule.  Just as I hope to live my life by the Golden Rule, I hope to run my business by the Golden Rule.
My focus words for this year are "inspiration" and "determination."  I would love to hear what your focus words are for the year.  Please comment below.  Also… new things are coming.  I would like to have you explore DUO Education and tell me what you find valuable and what you don't.  What are you looking for in an educational site?  You are a valued follower/reader and I would love to be the resource for which you are looking.  Tell me how I can better serve you.  I would love to hear your comments below.  Thank you.

What is Online Tutoring, Who Can it Help, How Can You Use it, and Why Choose DUO Education?

9/24/2014

Picture
Hello everyone.  I often promote my online tutoring page.  Yet, it has occurred to me that some of you may not know much about online tutoring.  I know that there wasn't such a thing when I was going through school.
Online tutoring or distance learning is becoming more and more prevalent.  People are finding that learning from the comfort of their own home at a time that works for them is much easier than going to a school, library, or tutoring center to learn.  It cuts down the need to get childcare or to use the car and waste gas unnecessarily.
There are quite a few online learning establishments.  If you want to learn online, there are a variety of places to check out.  Some of them are big, established places with many tutors.  Why consider DUO Education instead of those places?  Most of the bigger places give tutors a percentage of the tutoring fee. So, in order to make the program worth it to both the company and the tutors, the fee has to be more expensive.  I am a one woman show.  I only have to make it worth it for myself.  So, my prices are apt to be less expensive.
How does online tutoring actually work?  What is involved?  For me, it would be a case by case basis.  It depends on what is needed and what technology the learner may have to use.  It could be any where from emailing or chatting back and forth to Skyping or using Google Hangouts to have more of a face to face feel.  There is technology where a learner and tutor can share use of an online white board or chalkboard, so that you can work on problems together.  Sometimes tutoring involves gathering resources and learning activities for learners to practice in between sessions.  With DUO Education, it may also creating custom activities individualized for optimum results for each learner.
That leads me to my next point to consider, while considering online tutoring… or any tutoring for that matter.  What is the educational philosophy of the tutor?  Does he or she have a variety of strategies in teaching?  Is he or she willing to cater to your learning style and abilities?  Is the tutor encouraging and understanding?
There is another plus to online tutoring.  It is safe.  You or your child is not side by side of someone you don't know.  Yes, there is a "side by side" feel on the computer.  But…there isn't any rubbing shoulders in a home, center, library, or school.
What are some ways you can use DUO Education's online tutoring?
*Your child is struggling for understanding and the grades you want in specific academic skills
*Your child has difficulty being motivated to WANT to learn
*Your child has special needs and falls behind with what he or she receives during the school day
*Your child sometimes has homework questions and you have a difficult time getting answers for him or her and you would like to sign up for a "homework help program"
*Your child has difficulty with study skills in general and staying organized with school work
*Your child enjoys writing and you want to help him or her hone the skill to the point where he or she can some day get a book published
I know what you are wondering.  You are wondering with all this mention of children, if I only work with children. No, I work with people of all ages.  I am happy to work with people of all ages and abilities.
If there is a specific subject or skill that you are wanting to learn, please let me know.  We can talk about it.  If I can't help, I will try to point you in a direction that will be helpful.
Are you ready to check out DUO Education's Online Tutoring Services? Do you know anyone who may benefit from online tutoring services?  You can check out the services here.  And, if you have any questions or are ready to start your online tutoring journey, please feel free to contact me.  It is free to contact me.  It is free to discuss your needs.  Try it, today!

DUO Education Offers Sample Daily Homework Log

8/27/2014

Picture
Hello everyone.  With the beginning of school, I thought it would be good to include a sample of a homework log in today's blog.  This is just one sample.  Yet, it gets students to think, not just about the assignment itself, but also about the preparation and follow through of the assignment.  Students decide the priority level of the assignment, whether or not they have all the materials needed, if they understand the assignment, and when it is finished.
Help your child to be organized and thoughtful about his or her homework.  Homework logs can help your student be more efficient and more confident.
Feel free to click on the image and download the sample homework log.  If you would like a customized homework log, feel free to contact me for details.

DUO Education Presents Clarinda Cloud Name Tags

Picture
Hello everyone.  It is getting close to the beginning of school.  So, I created name tags.  Clarinda Cloud has her name tag.  She is ready for school.
This is perfect for all the elementary teachers and guidance counselors out there as well as preschool teachers and daycare providers.
However, this is not just a regular name tag.  If you have read the book, "Clarinda Cloud," you can also ask children to point to the cloud that shows how they are feeling at any particular moment in the day.  It is a great way for a student to be able to show you that he or she is happy, angry, scared, shy, sorry, sad…etc… through out the day in an inconspicuous way.
Never heard of Clarinda Cloud or her books?  That is okay.  You can find out more information on her website at www.ClarindaCloud.com.
Want to buy one or both of the Clarinda Cloud books?

Hello everyone!  I thought I would take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped make the "Share and Win Party" a success.  DUO Education got an all time high of over 2500 page views in one day during the promotion.  It was wonderful!
Please feel free to explore and share the pages of DUO Education frequently.  I update them quite often.  Also, this time, the prize was for a $10 Amazon gift card.  (The winner as been chosen and the gift card has been delivered.)  However, as DUO Education gets better known and more established, the prizes for my events will get bigger.
Plus, DUO Education boasts quality, individualized education!  This isn't a "do it my way" site.  It is an "I teach it the way you understand it" site!  And, if you need to understand how to do it a particular way, I can do that too!
So, please feel free to share the following pages and more:
*DUO Education
*Online Tutoring Services

*Books by Jodi Desautels
There is so much to share from DUO Education!

DUO Education Shares Story of Lesson in Persistence for Finding Fractions Fonts

7/9/2014

Picture
Hello everyone.  I spent most of the morning trying to figure out how to create learning pages including fractions with numbers on top of each other.  If you type them in a Microsoft Word document, fractions came out like 1/2. However, that is not what I wanted.  I searched free for commercial use fraction fonts.  Yet, I couldn’t find any.  So, I decided to create fractions of my own.  I have just the beginning shown here.  I still have more to go.  When I am finished, I will have a bank of fractions from which to choose.
I guess, sometimes it is just better to make it yourself.  Persistence helps as well.  There is a lesson to be learned in persistence!

Your Chance to Win One Hour of FREE Online Tutoring with DUO Education

4/2/2014

Picture
Hi everyone!  I am happy to announce that I have revamped the tutoring page.  It is more colorful and more appealing.  Not only that, but it is more compact and easier to see at a glance.  I hope you will check it out, if you get a chance.  Doesn’t it just make you want to sign up for tutoring?

Why choose DUO Education over other online tutors?  My style of tutoring is geared towards YOU!  I want YOU to learn.  I do what I can to not only help you learn, but to make it fun!  Yes, you heard me correctly!  I do what I can to make learning fun!  I also individualize instruction.  That means I don’t try to teach skills the same way to everyone.  I teach a skill in the way that is best for YOU to learn it!

Online tutoring or distance learning seems to be the trending thing in education.  However, DUO Education is not just a trend.  It is teaching and learning with heart.  Each person is treated with respect, understanding, and kindness.  I am friendly and easily build a rapport with my students.

Who can benefit from online tutoring with DUO Education?  Just about anyone who has an educational need.  He could be a child struggling to pass a class in school.  She could be an adult who needs to brush up on basic skills in order to pass an entrance exam of some sort.  He could be an English language learner who needs extra practice in learning English and other basic skills.  She could be an adult who wants to write a children’s book and wants some mentoring, feedback, and extra ideas.  Does this include people with learning disabilities?  Yes!  I have had some experience working with special education students.

What is involved with online tutoring?  How does it work?  The short answer is, “We will work it out together!”  It is different for each person.  You may want to be able to chat face-to-face in a virtual classroom type environment.  You may want premade activities and assignments that are sent back and forth through email.  You may want occasional homework help or you may want something on a regular basis.

Picture
Here is a fantastic deal for you in celebration of the newly formatted online tutoring page:

I will give away one hour of free tutoring to one lucky person who comments and/or shares this post!  (If you do not need tutoring, you are more than welcome to give the free hour to someone who does.)

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or if you would like to get started with online tutoring today.  Thank you!  And… good luck!

Introducing "Jam with Jodi" Monthly Newsletter

1/29/2014

Picture
Hello everyone!  Today's post is going to be a rather short one.  I am introducing my new "Jam with Jodi" Monthly Newsletter.  This page is the "DUO Education" page of it.  It also has pages for my books, for my author site, for my character site, and for my links.  It is a great way to keep up with DUO Education and my other works at a glance.  It would be too much to put all the links for every page on every site, so please explore the entire site while there.
Also, to make it easier for you to find the newsletters, I also created a "Jam with Jodi" Monthly Newsletter Gallery.  Again, these are only short blurbs of what is offered.  So, please explore the entire sites.  Thank you.
As always, I would enjoy your feedback on how you like the newsletter as well as any other feature at DUO Education.
