Writing Prompt 5 for 2014

Hello everyone.  Today's writing prompt is a list of fears.  Most of us have fears in one way or another.
It could be fear of public speaking, fear of snakes, fear of closed in spaces, fear of spiders, fear of heights, fear of death…any sort of fear.  Some people have multiple fears.
Fear is a strong emotion and is often used to build up to climactic moments and pivotal points in the plot.  It is a good idea to brainstorm with a list of fears.  And, if they are your fears, you may be more apt to make the scene more emotional.  Sometimes it is nice to be able to put yourself in the shoes of your characters.

I have quite a list of fears, some being: fear of flying, fear of vomiting, and the biggie: fear that my kids will hate me. This is a great writing prompt because fear is something we ALL experience in one form or another... would be a great exercise to write down one's fears and perhaps use those in a manuscript.

Thank you, Cathy. I am glad you like this writing prompt. Yes..I agree we all have these fears. And… yes… writing prompts are often used to give people ideas for a manuscript or writing assignment of some sort.

Fear has been the topic of my most two recent blogs. Fear is keeping me from finding my author's voice. See how I try to overcome it at janevblanchard.com.

It has also been a recent blog on http://thewritepractice.com/purgining-fear/

Interesting topic.

Jane... I'll have to check out your blogs. As to fear and using your *voice* when writing, I hear you on that! When I first started writing, I was obsessed with keeping my writing exactly what I'd learned we were *supposed* to do, but it ended up sounding dry... what was missing? My voice. Once I let loose on that, my manuscript sounded so much better.
