 Hello everyone. Today is Labor Day in the U.S. So, I thought that I would make today's writing prompt simply: What does Labor Day mean to you? If you are from another country, it may not mean anything to you. I don't know other cultures well enough to know if there is any sort of "Labor Day" celebration. I would love to hear your answers.  Hello everyone. Today's story starter gives you options for adventure. Can you imagine waking up in totally new surroundings and not knowing how you got there? That is the premise of today's story starter.
You get to fill in the details. Let your imagination go wild. What was this new place? How did you get there? Will you get back to your normal surroundings? Today's writing prompt can also be considered a story starter. I thought it would be interesting to turn a story starter into a writing prompt.
All we know is that a male is sleeping. Your assignment, or writing prompt, is to list as many scenarios that come to mind with the details given. Who is the male sleeping? Is it a man, a boy, an animal, a martian, a fictitious character? Is it someone you know? Who is the "I" that tiptoes into the room. Is it you or someone you make up? Where is the room? What time of day is it? Why is the being sleeping? Use your imagination and have fun with it. If you want, choose the most exciting scenario and turn it into a story.  Hello everyone. It was such a hot day today, it would have been a wonderful time at the beach. However, I am not anywhere near a beach. So, I guess I will just have to keep it in my imagination. So, I decided to create today's story starter about a trip to the beach.

Anyway, it is a two part prompt.
For the first part, you think of ten words that start with the same letter as the first letter in your name. Write the list of words down. This is the pre-writing part of the writing prompt. My name starts with the letter "j" so I need to think of ten words that start with the letter "j." Let's see. I think I would write down: jump, joyful, jab, jet, jazz, jumprope, jog, just, jellyfish, and jack-o-lantern. Then, the idea would be for me to try to write a story using as many of these words as possible. Good luck! And, most of all, have fun with it!  Hello everyone. It is raining here today. I looked out the window and the rain was pouring down. Okay…not pouring down, but coming down. I decided to not go out and do what I had planned for today. So, that is what gave me the idea for today's writing assignment. I admit, I hope that it is not a boring day. However, there have been times when days like this have turned out to be boring.
Now, it is your time. Pretend that it is raining outside, you turn on the television but nothing good is on, and the pains of boredom start setting in. Tell your story. What happens from here? Today's writing prompt has to do with imaginary friends. Your assignment is to write a story that includes an imaginary friend. Describe every part of the imaginary friend. However, I do like to think about how things were in the "olden days." It sometimes fascinates me that some things that I did as a child, my own child hasn't even seen. Things change over time. Some of the things that my parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents did, I have never even tried or seen.
Now it is your turn to tell a story about the good ole days! What story would you have a grandmother tell her granddaughter or grandson about her childhood? Would you include something that is totally different than what the grandchild knows? Or, would you have it a story that shows that things aren't so different now than they were back then?
